Peter first became involved in health research through his role as a volunteer leader with a Men’s Pie Club in Newcastle. In 2021 Peter was invited to be part of the Voice community and has been involved in research ever since.
Peter was in recovery from alcohol and so was able to share his views and experience with several projects relating to addictions and continues to do so. He is also interested in research on cognitive frailty and dementia, and more broadly mental health. Peter’s involvement through Voice has led to other opportunities to help shape research, including projects funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR).
Peter describes having been involved in lots of weird and wonderful things through his education and work in the past, but that involvement in health research as one of the most rewarding. He particularly enjoys face to face meetings and is looking forward to being part of more of these and contributing and learning through working with our HealthTech Research Centre. In his spare time, Peter plays in a mixed walking football team and is a big fan of Dr Who.
